Naz Reid upset closing favorite Malik Monk to win the 2024 NBA Sixth Man of the Year, based on the latest NBA odds from our NBA betting sites.
Entering the final month of the 2023-24 NBA regular season, it looked like Sacramento Kings guard Malik Monk would be the runaway favorite to win the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award. But an injury caused him to miss the final nine games of the season and opened the door for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Naz Reid.
Sure enough, Reid was named the 2024 NBA Sixth Man of the Year on Wednesday, cashing as a +120 underdog based on the closing odds from our best sports betting sites. The Timberwolves reserve averaged 13.5 points and 5.2 rebounds in 81 games, upping that to 17.6 points and 6.4 rebounds over his final 18 games.

The only player who had any chance of catching Monk after the Kings guard's injury was Reid, who quietly put together the best run of any bench player in the 2023-24 season.
Reid, a former undrafted player out of LSU, turned in a breakout season with a career high in points (13.5), rebounds (5.2), assists (1.3), and steals (0.8). But the most impressive aspect of the fourth-year big man's season was his development from deep, shooting 41.4% from three with the fourth-most made 3-pointers per game for Minnesota (2.1).
When Karl-Anthony Towns went down in early March, Reid helped fill the void and kept Minnesota afloat in the NBA championship odds. The 24-year-old had 13 separate 18-point performances over the last 24 regular-season games, which ultimately helped him cash as an underdog in this market.
NBA Sixth Man of the Year odds over time
Ever since Monk began stuffing the stat sheet in February, our best sportsbooks pivoted to him as the favorite for this award over Tim Hardaway Jr. Monk quickly pulled away after that and his odds were as short as -800 in late March.
But when he went down with the injury, that gave Reid - who spent much of the season as a long shot - a chance to catch him. The Timberwolves forward saw his odds shorten from +500 in the final weeks to no longer than +120 by the end of the season.
In the end, Reid won the award by just two first-place votes over Monk, who received nearly identical voting splits across the board.
